Customer-centric design: how Dynaco incorporates customer feedback into product development

In today’s fast-paced door market, staying always AHEAD requires more than just innovation. It demands a deep understanding of customer needs, and a commitment to meeting them. A customer-centric approach, which draws on honest feedback from actual users, to offer adequate solutions for existing - and future - challenges. At Dynaco, we couldn’t agree more. Join us as we explore the vital role of customer feedback in our quest for excellence.

At Dynaco, we believe our customers’ voices matter. They not only help us to adapt and improve existing products, but also to align with new needs in a rapidly changing door market. That is why we are always actively gathering feedback from our partners and end-users. Whether it happens at informal meetings or at special events, such as new product launches or our biannual Depack partner meeting: we are always keeping our finger on the customer’s pulse. How do they really feel about our products? Are they meeting their specific needs or could they be improved, and how? And how can we prepare even better for challenges ahead, with innovative solutions? This customer-centric approach has led to several exciting realisations, from new and improved door designs, to state-of-the-art technological advances. Let’s take a look at some customer-inspired realisations.

Dynaco’s customer-centric door designs

One of the standout examples of our customer-centric approach is the Dynaco D6. This door range grew out of the existing M2 and was developed taking into account customer feedback on potential improvements. For instance, feedback revealed a desire for a quieter operating system. Analysis of the door’s zipper system revealed some inconsistencies in the alignment of the zipper teeth, due to manual assembly. To rectify this, Dynaco developed a robotic system to precisely position the zipper teeth, which significantly lowered noise levels, but also wear and tear of the zippers. To further minimise vibrations and noise, we reinforced the door's upper structure and increased the diameter of the drum that lifts the curtain.

To meet demands for a more elegant look, we furthermore added symmetrical covers and a reduced top cover height, The result? A much sleeker look. And a safer working environment! New maintenance covers were installed to allow easy access to the critical door components. The new maintenance covers can simply be slid sideways, so no need to bring down a large drum cover before starting to work. This assures speedy and safe maintenance and is an advantage for our dealers and their clients. Many other improvements were done to ease up the maintenance and improve the already legendary reliability of the M2.

Customer feedback is indeed instrumental in updating and improving our existing doors, but it also leads to totally new additions to the Dynaco family. Take the D-211, for instance. This  door was developed to answer the market’s demand for a more basic door model, but with that typical Dynaco quality. Utilising a new zipper system, this door offers an affordable solution without having to compromise on performance.

Over the years, our customers’ growing demand for sustainable solutions has also inspired us to get greener. We continuously strive to minimise the environmental impact of our production, which is reflected in our products’ EDP status. In addition, we work tirelessly at improving the energy-saving properties of our doors by optimising their insulation properties and opening and closing sequences, as illustrated by our first-ever, insulated high-speed rigid door.

From communicate to innovate

Feedback from partners and clients has also proven invaluable in developing our innovative ADM or Advanced Door Management software. Originally developed for a client who required a multi interlock of 40 doors, we were faced with a safety request. How could we ensure speedy and safe evacuation in an emergency situation, if doors would only open according to the multi lock sequence? In collaboration with the client, we provided a connection between the ADM software and the company’s alarm system. As a result, the pre-programmed multi interlock system would be automatically overruled by the alarm system. A  resounding success, which was then added as a standard feature to our ADM system. An inspiring example of how a specific customer need can drive broader innovations.

However, feedback is not just a one-way street. When it comes to providing useful insights, we like to return the favour. Providing customers with input that will help push their business forward. Our innovative DYNALOGIC5 control box, for instance, was adapted to provide users with useful info and advice on a door’s performance and use. Summarised and coupled with useful advice, which is now immediately accessible through the control box’ interface.
